Turkish and Romanian Navies Receive Hisar-Class OPVs TurDef

ASFAT announced that TCG Koçhisar (P-1221) OPV will be taken into the Turkish inventory, while Contraamiral Roman (261) corvette will be delivered to Romania.

ASFAT stated that the Turkish and Romanian navies will receive Hisar-class ships, one for each, on 20 June 2026. The Turkish Navy will take TCG Koçhisar (P-1221) OPV into the inventory, while Contraamiral Roman (261) corvette will be delivered to the Romanian Navy in the ceremony as a corvette.

Romania is expected to make changes to the baseline configuration of the Hisar-class warship in accordance with its requirements, hence the corvette designation. The expected changes include NSM cruise missile integration for upgraded ASuW capabilities. Thus, this is potentially a display of MİLGEM’s integration flexibility for foreign weaponry.

Hisar-class OPVs

Hisar-class OPVs being built by ASFAT, DESAN, and DEARSAN are based on MİLGEM Ada-class corvette design with a modified loadout.

The OPVs use CODELOD propulsion, prioritising fuel economy instead of the high-performance CODAG, due to the need for longer endurance compared to the submarine-hunting Ada-class corvettes.

The ships follow the FFNBW principle and are currently armed with guns only. Still, heavy-duty weaponry such as ATMACA anti-ship missiles and HİSAR-D air defence missiles can be integrated.

The baseline weaponry includes MKE DENİZHAN 76 mm naval gun, GÖKDENİZ 100/35/StA CIWS, and a pair of TARGAN 12.7 mm RCWS.

Sensor loadout includes CENK 200-N searching radar, AKREP 100-N fire control radar, and YELKOVAN ESM system.
