Israel to Retaliate Iran’s Missile Attack

Israel Defence Forces chief of staff, Lt Gen Herzi Halevi, says that Israel will hit back, but the way and timing is unclear. Halevi, the IDF chief of staff, said that Israel would strike back following the cabinet meeting. “This launch of so many missiles, cruise missiles and drones into Israeli territory will be met with a response,” Halawi said. According to Israel’s Channel N12 News, a variety of solutions were explored during a several-hour meeting that would demonstrate Iran’s activities had crossed a red line without sparking an even larger response, as Tehran has promised. N12 reported that Israel intended to coordinate its response with the United States, although the Biden administration has consistently stated that it will not participate in or help any Israeli counterattacks. On Monday, US officials appeared resigned to the fact that the Israeli government would not accept Biden’s recommendation to “take the win” by shooting down the vast majority of incoming Iranian missiles and drones on Saturday night and Sunday morning and that there would be an Israeli retaliation. The IDF claims to have shot down 99 per cent of the drones, ballistic and cruise missiles. However, it was later revealed that several Iranian munitions failed to launch or fell far short of their intended objectives. In the end, just four Iranian missiles struck the Nevatim base and surrounding areas.
