Turkish Gendarmie's special forces unit JÖAK's operators demonstrated deployment with the service's new T625 Gökbey utility helicopter.
Following TUSAŞ's six-ton utility helicopter's introduction to the Gendarmie service, JÖAK performed a demonstration where nine special forces personnel were deployed to a remote area with their equipment.
T625 Gökbey has been developed as TUSAŞ's first indigenously designed helicopter. It is planned to serve as a utility helicopter in both military and commercial fields.
Alongside the Gendarmerie, the Turkish Coast Guard will acquire the helicopter in a separate configuration for search and rescue missions.
As a counterpart in terms of weight class, Gökbey will also succeed the ageing UH-1/AB-412 helicopters.
Following T625 Gökbey, the larger T925 utility helicopter, weighing 10+ tonnes and under development, will similarly serve as a dual-service platform.
Due to its significant carrying capacity, the Turkish General Directorate of Forestry will acquire the larger helicopter as a firefighter, while the Navy might opt for a marine general-purpose helicopter akin to the SH-60 Seahawks in use.
