Menendez Defends Himself as Innocent

On the floor of the Senate, Robert Menendez gave answers about the charges he is facing. He insisted on his innocence, spoke of the political prosecution’s lack of evidence. “I have never violated the public trust,” Menendez said. “I am entirely innocent of the charges.”

Menendez’s speech Tuesday marked the first time he has spoken publicly about the accusations that he aided a Qatari investment fund and used his political influence to advance Egypt’s interests. Following the indictment, Menendez stepped down as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Menendez is also known for his anti-Turkish, pro-Greek, and Armenian stands on any possible platform.
