A video of TRT World showing ASELSAN’s export products included a modernised turret for Chile’s Leopard 2A4 MBTs, which ASELSAN will modernise.
The turret’s equipment matches the model of the modernisation package exhibited during FIDAE 2024. A commander’s electro-optical system and SARP RCWS can be observed on the turret tested for stabilisation with the same distribution.
Connection points on the turret are also noteworthy, which are likely for add-on armour to increase protection and add other sensors like laser warning systems. The existence of add-on armour on gun mantlets supports this possibility. YouTube channel Cuestiones Militares released video news during FIDAE 2024, reporting a small batch with add-on armour and an active protection system.
ASELSAN has been awarded a contract to modernise the engagement and sensor capabilities of Chilean Leopard 2 MBTs.
The fire control system will be replaced with ASELSAN’s VOLKAN, and a SARP-type RCWS will be integrated to provide additional firepower. The gunner’s optics will also be renewed, with what appears to be from the KARTALGÖZÜ series of sights. On the situational awareness side, laser and missile warning systems will be installed against ATGMs, and an electro-optical system will be added for the commander.
