Otokar Announces the Romanian Bid at KAP

Romania-based “Defense Romania” recently claimed that only OTOKAR made a bid in the 4×4 armoured vehicle tender opened by Romania. It was stated that the supply of 1059 COBRA armoured vehicles would be approximately €920 million. OTOKAR made a statement on the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). No information about the procurement has been shared yet. Otokar said, “ A bid has been submitted for the tender opened by C.N. Romtehnica S.A., Romanian Ministry of National Defence’s Company, which includes the purchase of 4x4 Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicles. The submitted bids will be evaluated based on various criteria, such as technical and commercial/financial competence, together with the test performances of the vehicles. Should the tender be awarded to our Company, important developments related to the process will be shared with our investors. Romania demanded local production from the companies. It is claimed that US-based company Oshkosh JLTV was unable to obtain the necessary permits to meet this requirement. According to Romanian defence industry sources, financial constraints, low price margins, and severe contract conditions refrained other companies from bidding at the tender except OTOKAR. Considering Romania’s close relations with France, Arquus company’s failure to participate in the tender was an unexpected development. The cooperation between OTOKAR and Romania dates back to 2018. OTOKAR has a company called “OTOKAR Romania” that operates in Romania.
