The first launch test of SİPER 1-D long-range air defence missile for warships from the MİDLAS vertical launch system was performed at a ground facility.
Following the firing test of HİSAR-D medium-range air defence missile from TCG İstanbul (F-515) frigate with a hit on the target, SİPER 1-D with a range of 100+ km is next in line. Secretary of the Turkish Defence Industries /SSB) Haluk Görgün announced on social media, the ground-based launch test of SİPER 1-D from MİDLAS VLS.
SİPER 1-D is the naval adaptation of the SİPER Block 1 long-range air defence missile with a range of 100+ km. SİPER Block 1 is a two-stage missile with a dual-pulse rocket motor to provide increased probability of kill. The guidance package for SİPER 1-D likely consists of an active RF seeker, datalink for midcourse guidance, and GNSS-assisted inertial navigation.
Datalink is a subject to be opened up further as HİSAR-D features modifications to the baseline HİSAR-O RF missile for use onboard warships. It would not be wrong to assume that SİPER 1-D has similar changes.
Following SİPER 1-D, either one of G/M-1 quad-packed air defence missile with AESA radar seeker or SİPER 2-D are expected to follow as air defence missiles. In contrast, the ATMACA anti-ship missile will come as an option for extra ASuW firepower. During Euronaval 2024, ROKETSAN Launcher Systems Manager Mustafa Özdemir stated that the naval variant of SİPER Product 2 will be launched from the strike-length MİDLAS due to its larger size.
