Infodefensa reported that the contract covering the procurement development of HÜRJET for the Spanish Air and Space Force needs was approved on the 28th of October by the Spanish Council of Ministers.
The contract, worth €3.12 billion, includes 45 units, as previously reported and will be active until the 30th of November 2035. The deliveries of Spanish HÜRJETs will commence in 2028.
TUSAŞ and Airbus will cooperate on Spain’s HÜRJETs, with Airbus responsible for the modifications corresponding to Spanish requirements. In addition to Airbus, 15 Spanish companies will take part in the introduction of Hürjet into the Spanish Air and Space Force: Aciturri, Aernova, Aertec, Airtificial, Amper, Centum, Cesa, Clue, GMV, Grabysur, Indra, ITP, Grupo Oesía, Orbital and Sener.
HÜRJET will replace the F-5s in use as advanced trainers in Spanish service, while it will replace T-38 Talon advanced trainers in Turkish Air Force service, as well as F-5s used by the Turkish Stars aerobatics team. In addition to non-combatant roles, HÜRJET is also envisioned as a light combat aircraft with provisions for armament and the MURAD AESA radar.
In addition to the success in Spain's tender for new advanced trainers, HÜRJET is competing in the UK's tender for Hawk trainer replacement and the US Navy's tender for T-45 Goshawk replacement.
