Spanish official gazette Boletín Oficial del Estado announced that the HÜRJET acquisition from Turkiye will include up to 45 units and localisation in Spain.
Boletín Oficial del Estado has given more detailed information regarding the HÜRJET advanced trainer deal with Turkiye within the scope of the ITS-C programme.
The news release stated that up to 45 units will be acquired. Previously, Spanish Minister of Defence Margarita Robles announced an investment worth €1.375 billion in the joint development of HÜRJET for Spain, with a goal of 28 to 30 aircraft.
Within the scope of Turkish-Spanish cooperation, the aircraft will be produced in TUSAŞ facilities and sent to Spain for modifications in accordance with Spain’s requirements. Airbus Spain will receive a funding for the localisation work on the Spanish Air and Space Force HÜRJET trainers from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and transfer the funds to the consortium formed with TUSAŞ and Spanish firms.
The release also covered the general characteristics envisioned by Spain, which include use as a REDFOR aircraft for combat training and aerobatics aircraft outside the general use as an advanced trainer. Similarly to Spain in terms of aerobatics, Turkiye will have HÜRJET replace the ageing NF-5s in the Turkish Stars (Türk Yıldızları) aerobatics team.
