The Naval Forces Establishes a third Marine Infantry Brigade

According to information from the Ministry of National Defence sources, the Naval Forces are establishing a third Marine Infantry Brigade. In this case, could a second LHD be on the agenda? Ministry of National Defence sources answered questions regarding establishing the 16th Main Jet Base Command in Muğla and the Amphibious Corps in Çanakkale.

As a result of the command assignments made by the Supreme Military Council at the beginning of August, it was revealed that new units had been established in the military structure.

Ministry sources also gave the following answers to questions regarding the meaning of the establishment of the 16th Main Jet Base Command in Muğla/Dalaman and the Amphibious Corps in Çanakkale: “Force structure plans are constantly updated by taking into account the operational needs of the Turkish Armed Forces. In this context, the 16th Main Jet Base Command is being established in Dalaman. Dalaman Air Field Command has been put into service since 1985 and has fulfilled its duty in terms of military aviation. In order to increase the support it provides to the developing aviation sector and to meet operational needs, the 16th Main Jet Base Command organization was meticulously planned, approved by our Ministry, and entered into force in 2024 as included in the Force Structure Plan of the Air Force Command.

A decision was taken to establish an Amphibious Corps in Çanakkale by the developing and strengthening force structure of our Naval Forces. To reorganize the Marine Corps at the Corps level, consisting of three brigades, and to use amphibious elements effectively in different regions, the Amphibious Corps Command was established whitin the Naval Forces Command.

According to TurDef’s analyses, a new platform will be needed with the establishment of a third Marine Corps brigade. In this case, the expectation of constructing a second ship, a sister ship to the TCG Anadolu L-400, might also be on the agenda of the Naval Forces.
