U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance discussed in the Oval Office with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in front of the press, generating a diplomatic crisis.
While Zelensky insisted that "there can be no compromise with a killer," Trump and Vance asked her to show more thanks during the conversation.

Diplomatic Distance Over Russia
JD Vance's request to investigate diplomatic routes with Russia set off the debate. Drawing on Russia's 2014 invasion of Crimea, Zelensky pointed out that although international assurances had been issued, no firm action had been implemented. He also remembered other commitments signed with Russian President Vladimir Putin, alleging that Putin had broken each one of them. Then Zelensky asked Vance to define what he meant by diplomatic means. He asked JD Vance about his case expertise, corning him.
Unable to explicitly respond to Zelensky's inquiry, JD Vance stated his understanding is based on the "stories." In response, Trump and JD Vance underlined the need for world peace, cautioned against rash actions and stated that Ukraine should appreciate the United States. The conversation grew more heated, with all three leaders interrupting each other in front of the cameras.
No agreement on resource rights
After the divisive conference, Zelensky left the White House without completing a consensus that would have awarded the U.S. rights to undersea resources. The episode highlights the increasing pressure on U.S.-Ukraine ties as diplomatic and geopolitical differences eclipse possible collaboration.
