Türkiye Gets Closer to Hürjet Export to Spain

Turkish Aerospace Hürjet advanced training aircraft is getting step by step closer to the Spanish Airforce. In the Spanish edition, HuffPost writes, “Spain seeks agreement with Türkiye to exchange military aircraft” as Turkiye and Spain negotiate Hürjet for an A400M exchange. Turkiye and many major aviation countries compete for the Spanish Air Force’s jet training aircraft tender.

Sources told TurDef that Turkiye is shortlisted, but no decision has been made. According to the HuffPost, the Spanish Air and Space Force has decided to replace its F-5 aircraft with 24 Turkish-made Hürjet advanced trainers. In addition, the strategic transport fleet will be expanded by acquiring six new A400M aircraft.

These changes are part of modernising the Spanish Air Force and improving training and transport capabilities. After half a century of service, the aircraft will cease to be in service in 2030. The publication underlined that a Hürjet prototype has landed at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base, and a Spanish delegation will travel to Turkiye soon to discuss an agreement to exchange aircraft. If the negotiations succeed,

Spain will replace its F-5s with Hürjet, and Turkiye will get Spain’s surplus A400Ms. Spain is seeking to sell ten of these aircraft. The company initially ordered 27 A400M aircraft but later assured it would only use 14. A year ago, the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, explained that Spain would end up with 17, so it seeks to eliminate ten. On the other hand, Turkiye wants to expand its air transport capacity. Turkish Air Force has retired its C-160 fleet and is pursuing this goal with CN-235, C-130 and A400M. It is known that the Royal Air Force wants to sell some part of its C-130 fleet to Turkiye.
