Turkish MoD’s R&D department unveiled the NEB-1 and NEB-2 HAYALET 2000 lb steel penetrator type bunker buster bombs during the IDEF25 defence exhibition.
MoD’s R&D department has unveiled a series of munition projects aimed at increasing effectiveness in various areas. NEB-1 and NEB-2 HAYALET are the two examples of these works as 2000 lb bunker busters.
While NEB-1 and NEB-2 are externally analogous to the BLU-109 bunker buster bomb, using a hard steel shell to penetrate through reinforced concrete, NEB-2 HAYALET has a set of modifications to increase both penetration and blast effect.
Turkish MoD and R&D sources stated that NEB-2 with a thickened penetrator and 250 kg thermobaric filling can penetrate eight meters of reinforced concrete (Unspecified type). The sources also stated that both NEB-1 and NEB-2 are in the inventory. For reference, baseline BLU-109 has a penetration capability against reinforced concrete between 1.5 m and 1.8 m. The Turkish Air Force is among the BLU-109 users.
As a bomb with the same geometrical properties as BLU-109, NEB-2 can be fitted with various guidance kits produced in Turkiye like LGK, HGK, and KGK.
