Turkiye and Egypt’s Steps Towards Military Cooperation

Turkiye and Egypt are expected to develop their military relations, which may lead to military cooperation. Lieutenant General Osama Askar, Chief of the General Staff of Egypt, was invited by his Turkish counterpart, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, to visit Turkiye. Askar met Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler and Gürak to discuss a new era of developing relations between the two countries. According to defensearabia.com, the Egyptian Armed Forces spokesman, Colonel Gharib Abdel Hafez, announced that the two sides confirmed their aspiration to enhance military cooperation between the two countries during the discussions. He added that the two sides discussed military cooperation and regional and international crises “affecting the national security of both countries and consensus of visions and viewpoints towards them.”

Lieutenant General Osama Askar also met Secretary of Defence Industry Secretariat (SSB)Professor Haluk Görgün and toured several defence companies. He visited Baykar which specializes in unmanned aerial systems.
