U.S. is Close to Announce F-16 Cooperation with Turkiye

The U.S. is about to announce the results of negotiations with Turkiye regarding the new F-16 Acquisition and Modernisation programme. U.S. Ambassador to Turkiye Jeff Flake announced on social media accounts,” Today marks an important step forward in Türkiye’s purchase of the latest-generation F-16 Block 70 fighter jets and upgrades to its existing fleet of F-16s. This is good for U.S. national security, Turkish national security, and NATO interoperability.” Ambassador Flake thanked the Turkish Defence Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support. He also shared his photo with Defence Minister Yaşar Güler, handshaking. On the other hand, in the U.S, the Political-Military Affairs unit of the Pentagon said, “U.S. proud to announce Today a major step forward in Türkiye’s purchase of new F-16 Block 70 fighter jets – the most advanced F-16 ever made, available only to closest Allies and partners. Just the latest example of U.S. enduring commitment to security partnership with Türkiye.” Turkiye’s demand to acquire 40 new F-16 Viper jets and modernisation kits for 79 F-16 was approved in February 2024. Two countries were negotiating the technical specifications, including missiles and production facilities.

Turkish Defence Ministry sources have not commented on elaborate social media statements but underlined that the acquisition process continues according to the predefined timetable.
