Ukrainian Defence Intelligence Receives CB90 Boats

The Ukrainian MoD’s Intelligence Agency, HUR, has received three CB90 patrol boats within the scope of the Steel Front initiative. The boats with ballistic protection and high mobility have previously been used for shallow-water surveillance and combat duties in the ongoing war. The boats’ configuration indicates light armament.

The recent delivery was done under the Steel Front initiative by Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov. During the war, Akhmetov’s firms provided various equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which were gathered under a single initiative for better coordination. Aside from the boats, the initiative has provided Ukrainian personnel with EW equipment, UAVs, tank shields, and personal protection equipment. The families of the soldiers have also been aided with a total financial support of $200 million so far. CB90 is Saab’s mainstream platform for littorals, with its speed of 40 knots and ballistic protection. Depending on customer needs, the boats can be armed with machine guns, autocannons, and short to medium-range missiles. Ukraine won’t be the only one taking additional deliveries of CB90 boats. Sweden has made a new boat order by integrating RBS-18 (A tripod-mounted derivative of AGM-114 Hellfire ATGM) coastal defence missiles.
