The U.S. Navy continues to invest in new amphibious concepts and doctrines. The new shipbuilding contract was inked with Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII). The shipbuilder will construct the America-class amphibious assault ship LHA 9 in line with a 2.4 billion USD contract. The company is known for its experience on large-deck amphibious ships. HII delivered 15 amphibious platforms, including Tarawa-class, Wasp-class and two America-class vessels.
