AFRICOM Might Settle in Morocco

In light of regular joint exercises, the possibility of U.S. Army AFRICOM settling in Morocco, a West African country, is on the table. Defense Arabia reports that Morocco hosts African Lion military exercises with the U.S. and others from May 20 to May 31. This is the second year in a row Morocco is hosting a military exercise with the U.S. Additionally, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces is expressing interest in strengthening military ties. Morocco has hosted 18 African Lion exercises, and its willingness to continue demonstrates its intentions to deepen its cooperation with the U.S. Morocco, located in the northwest of the continent, is close to Europe, unlike other African countries. Because of this proximity, the U.S. military presence in Europe would make a settlement easier than in other African countries. In summary, it is understood that the U.S. is seeing Morocco as a projection point with political and geographical advantages in Africa.
