Argentina has completed an agreement to acquire 24 second-hand Danish surplus F-16 AM/BM fighter jets to replace A-4AR Fightinghawk attack aircraft. Argentina has completed an agreement to acquire surplus Lockheed Martin F-16 AM/BM Fighting Falcon fighter jets from Denmark. The contract was signed on April 16, 2024. Argentina has long sought a replacement for the now-retired Dassault Mirage IIIEA and Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) Dagger and the Lockheed Martin A-4AR Fightinghawk attack aircraft that has readiness problems. Deputy Prime Minister of Denmark and Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said delivering the F-16 AM/BM fighter jets to Argentina is expected to occur later in 2024. The signing ceremony saw one F-16BM twin-seat fighter displayed in full Argentine Air Force livery and insignia for the first time. The F-16BM two-seat fighter jet for the Argentine Air Force was on display at the ceremony, and various mission equipment and weapons were installed on its fuselage. The Danish Air Force is replacing its fleet of 40 F-16 AM/BM fighters with 27 Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters.
