ASEAN Ambassadors Hold Meeting with SSB

Turkish Secretariat of Defence Industries SSB and ASEAN countries ambassadors completed the monthly informal meeting. Ambassador of Indonesia Achmad Rizal Purnama announced the meeting on social media platform X (Twitter). The meeting discussed the progress of the Turkish defence industry and the opportunities for cooperation with ASEAN countries.

ASEAN countries include Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and Singapore as its founding members. Turkiye has significant engagement with Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines in the defence sector with exports such as the T129 ATAK attack helicopter (Philippines), LMS Batch 2 corvettes based on Ada-class (Malaysia), and FNSS KAPLAN MT medium tank (Joint development with Indonesia).

Also, Malaysia has been invited to the KAAN fighter jet programme, as the Bernama news agency reported, three months after the aircraft's maiden flight. On the other hand, Indonesia's recent fluctuations of faith in the Korean KF-21 fighter jet programme and the signing of an MoU with Boeing to procure 24 F-15EX fighter jets indicate that the country is seeking alternatives for its future fighter fleet.

Thus, Indonesia shouldn't be ruled out from the possible partners for the KAAN programme.
