In its first announcement from the fair, ASELSAN included a visit that points to the development of relations between the two countries, Turkiye and Egypt. ASELSAN stated, “We had the opportunity to meet the Chief of Staff of the Arab Republic of Egypt and other high-level officials on site and present our engineering capabilities, especially for the Africa and Middle East regions, being among the most strategic regions for us.”
ASELSAN exhibits its Tank modernisation solutions, Gökdeniz CIWS, Akkor, Pulat, and RCWS solutions, as well as communication, such as handheld radio, vehicle radio, hybrid handheld terminal, backpack radio, marine radio, aerial radio, and EHKET system, at EDEX 2023. ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol gifted a mock-up of Barbaros-class (MEKO-200TN) frigate TCG Oruçreis (F-245) to Chief of Staff of the Arab Republic of Egypt Lieutenant General Osama Askar. ASELSAN has played an important role in modernising vessels, and Egypt recently inducted MEKO A-200EN similar class frigates.
Following the improvement in relations between Turkiye and Egypt in recent years, rapprochement in the field of defence industry was expected. Turkiye is participating in the fair in Egypt for the first time with more than 20 companies in defence and security.
The opening of EDEX 2023 was held with the participation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Minister of Defence Mohammed Zaki.
