China Debuts Armed UUV Design in DSA 2024

During the DSA 2024 defence exhibition held in Malaysia, Chinese firm Poly Technology revealed the UUV300CB design, which is fitted with torpedoes and missiles. Naval News reported that the UUV is being developed in several configurations. The displayed configuration, UUV300CB, is proposed as a multi-purpose platform with various weapons and sensors. The weaponry of UUV300CB consists of 380 mm torpedoes, land attack missiles, and a space for sea mines. The missiles are launched from aft cells, as shown in a video. An optronic mast and optionally smaller UUVs in the space reserved for mines comprise the UUV’s sensing capabilities. Sonar arrays will likely be present for underwater navigation. The UUV300CB measures 11.5 m in length and has 50 tons of displacement at full load. Driven by electric propulsion, it can reach a top speed of 12 knots and a range of 450 nm at 5 knots. It is noteworthy that this is the first time a combat-oriented UUV design has been displayed in a defence exhibition. China is known for working on large-sized unmanned naval platforms like the JARI family of USVs.
