French DGA Tests a New Infrared Optic for the Rafale F4.2

The French Defence Procurement Agency (Direction Générale de l’Armement /DGA) has just declared the qualification of the Rafale F4.1. This new standard, a significant leap from the previous version, F3R, introduces developments such as the Scorpion helmet sight and the capability to carry the AASM 1000 ammunition with GPS/laser guidance. The DGA is already gearing up for the next version, the F4.2 standard.

“Thales Front Sector Optronics allows the Rafale F4.1 to track targets in the visible and infrared ranges. In its F4.2 version, it will be equipped with new optics on the infrared channel, improving the image quality of the Night Identification function,” explains the DGA.
