India Explains the BrahMos Accident in Pakistani Territory

The Indian Air Force explained the cause of the accidental fall of the BrahMos supersonic missile on March 9, 2022, into Pakistani territory.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has divulged the specifics of the BrahMos supersonic missile's unintentional firing into Pakistan, the Indian Times reported on Saturday, citing an IAF declaration in the Delhi High Court. According to reports, the incident occurred on March 9, 2022, when an Indian missile crossed into Pakistani territory and crashed in the eastern region of Mian Channu. Islamabad criticised the violation of its airspace but took no action in retaliation. Meanwhile, New Delhi has publicly apologised to Pakistan for the missile launch blunder, citing a technical fault. This Thursday, the IAF released its conclusions regarding the misfire. It claimed that the missile's combat connector, which remained attached to the junction box, caused the inadvertent launch. The assessment also found that the commander of the road convoy unit hauling the missile launcher did not secure the convoy's safe transit by failing to disconnect the combat connectors of all loaded missiles. The IAF stated that the incident had an impact on Indian-Pakistani ties. The IAF confirmed that three officers accompanying the missile launcher were sacked for wrongdoing.
