GE Aerospace has agreed with STM -TAIS to supply LM2500 marine gas turbines for the İstif-Class frigates. The agreement includes GE Aerospace's marine gas turbines for MILGEM warships 6 - 8, with an order for frigates 9 - 12 underway. The LM2500 marine gas turbines will provide 23 MW of electricity to each frigate. Each ship will be equipped with one gas turbine. GE Aerospace will provide three marine turbines for the first three vessels, and the order for 9-12 frigates will add three more.
The İstif-class frigates are enlarged versions of the Ada-class corvettes powered by LM2500 gas turbines. They feature a larger hull for enhanced endurance, range capabilities, and longer-range armament. GE Aerospace has provided propulsion solutions to the Turkish Naval Forces since 1997.
Currently, 31 LM2500 marine gas turbines are on board 18 Turkish ships. In addition to the MILGEM project's Ada class corvettes and frigates, other programs include the Barbaros (MEKO 200) and Gabya (Oliver Hazard Perry) class frigates and the DIMDEG fleet oil replenishment vessel. The business promotes the LM2500 family of engines for the Navy's upcoming TF-2000 Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) guided-missile destroyer.
