LUNAS Shipyard Malaysia Signs MOU with PT PAL Indonesia

Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS) has signed an MOU with Indonesian state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL to promote the construction of new ships at the DSA in Malaysia. The MOU aims to "explore future collaboration on various shipbuilding projects, promote knowledge sharing, and advance technology in the region." Through this collaboration, LUNAS Shipyard hopes to share its experience. LUNAS Malaysia, formerly known as Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS), has successfully secured the contract to build five Maharaja Lela class frigates.

The first frigate, KD Maharaja Lela, is set to be commissioned in 2026, followed by the KD Sharif Mashor, KD Raja Mahadi, and the frigate KD Mat Salleh. In 2016, Boustead Naval Shipyard Malaysia and PT PAL Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on constructing multipurpose support ships. However, little development has been made on the MRSS multipurpose support ship project to date.
