NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte congratulated Donald Trump, who officially became the 47th President of the United States, and stated that the United States should accelerate defence spending and production with the new leader taking office.
Rutte shared a congratulatory message from his X account after Trump took the oath at the ceremony in Congress and officially became the 47th President of the United States. Congratulations to Trump and Vice President JD Vance on their inauguration. Rutte used Trump-style language but repeated his words at Carnegie Europe and said, “With President Trump back in office, we will turbo-charge defence spending & production.”
During his 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised to increase and modernize defence spending. He also declared that he would adopt policies similar to Ronald Reagan’s “peace through strength” strategy. This strategy aims to deter enemies by creating a strong defence capacity.
