Kongsberg has also developed the NSM (Naval Strike Missile). As the announcement states, the new 3SM missile will not replace the NSM but will complement it.
The 3SM Tyrfing is not the only new-generation anti-ship missile project in Europe. France and the United Kingdom, recently joined by Italy, are developing the FMAN/FMC [Future anti-ship missile / Future cruise missile], which should be operational in 2030.
