The State Department approved a possible FMS to Romania of AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Missiles for an estimated cost of $340.8 million.
The State Department has approved a prospective Foreign Military Sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Missiles to Romania and supporting equipment worth $340.8 million. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) provided the necessary certification, informing Congress of the probable sale.
Romania has asked to purchase up to 300 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Tactical Missiles, 40 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Tactical Missile Guidance Units, 40 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM), and 20 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II CATM Guidance Units. The programme will cost $340.8 million in total. RTX Corporation will be the main contractor.
Romanian F-16s will receive the missiles.
