Turkish Aerospace (TUSAŞ) CEO Professor Temel Kotil made the related statement via his Twitter account. The Gökbey T625 is being developed as part of the Indigenous Helicopter Program, coordinated by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB).The twin-engine, six-ton-class aircraft developed in response to the growing market need for better mission flexibility in this class is designed for high mission flexibility even in the harshest of geographical areas and adverse weather conditions.
The T625 prototype was previously powered by a pair of LHTECs and CTS800 4-AT turboshaft engines with 1,373 shaft horsepower each, created in a joint Rolls-Royce and Honeywell partnership.
The helicopter will soon be powered by a domestically produced engine manufactured by the TUSAŞ subsidiary TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI).The turboshaft TEI-TS1400 engine has been tailored to the Gökbey. The engine was in a test recently, and it produced a maximum of 1570 horsepower. The engine is labelled after its thrust, so it is natural to produce more than 1400 horsepower.
