GE Aerospace Secures $5B Contract for F110 Fighter Engines TurDef

GE Aerospace has received an Indefinite Development/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the U.S. Air Force (USAF), allowing F110-GE-129 engine delivery over several years. Part of the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, this agreement seeks to augment the airpower of American allies.

As agreed upon, GE Aerospace will supply:

New and spare F110 engines for F-15 and F-16 aircraft.

Upgraded monitoring systems to improve performance tracking.

Additional components and maintenance kits to support fleet operations.

Manufacturing will take place in San Antonio, Texas, and Cincinnati, Ohio; complete contract fulfilment is anticipated by 2030.

Having recorded over 11 million flight hours, the F110-GE-129 engine boasts a solid performance in worldwide air forces. For many F-15 and F-16 versions, it is still a major propulsion system with 29,000 pounds ( 129 kN). The engine's effectiveness in combat situations has shown its dependability and potency for several air forces.

This pact emphasises American will to provide partner air forces with sophisticated propulsion technologies. Among the countries getting these engines are Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bulgaria, and others running F-15 and F-16 aircraft.

GE Aerospace is instrumental in preserving the operational capability of these fleets by landing this contract, therefore guaranteeing their combat-ready state amid changing security conditions.

Future Prospect and Market Competitiveness

Although GE Aerospace is somewhat well-known in the F-15 and F-16 engine business, Pratt & Whitney, which provides F135 engines for the F-35 Lightning II project, poses competition.

This agreement guarantees long-term manufacturing and continuous developments in fighter jet propulsion technology, therefore supporting GE's position in the twin-engine and fourth-generation fighter industry.

Turkiye, however, intends to get eighty of them for the Turkish stealth fighter KAAN.
