General Atomics’ Mojave UAV for CAS Missions

General Atomics said it tested Mojave UAV with two Dillon Aero DAP-6 machine guns. The Mojave passes another milestone for Close Air Support (CAS) missions. On April 23, General Atomics indicated that the Mojave had just completed tests at the Yuma Proving Ground by carrying under its wings two DAP-6 Gun Pod pods, which, supplied by Dillon Aero, can each fire munitions of 7.62 x 51 mm at a rate of 3000 rounds per minute. The Mojave made seven sorties and fired 10,000 rounds against a range of targets.

The Mojave can carry up to 16 AGM-114 Hellfire II anti-tank missiles, an equal number of AGM-179A JAGMs, or a combination of Gatling gun turrets and anti-tank missiles. It is based on the avionics and flight control systems of the MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-1C Gray Eagle but has STOL (Short-Takeoff and Landing) capability and increased firepower. It incorporates extended wings and a 450-horsepower Rolls Royce turboprop engine. This capability interests the Royal Navy, which tested this device from the aircraft carrier Prince of Wales last November. Another of its strong points is its payload of 1.6 tonnes.
